Potty Paraphenalia

Our house is littered with different potties and potty rings! I'm constantly tripping over a toilet ring as Tegan refuses to leave them in the bathroom. At least she has stopped trying to wear them as necklaces!! So the Diego toilet ring at daycare did not work. Apparently Tegan was super pumped about her toilet ring but when it came down to it she would not get on the toilet with it and freaked out. So the daycare said she could bring her own little potty and she would just keep it in the garage when its not in use (apparently its a health violation or something to have it in the actual daycare). So Friday Tegan headed there with her pink potty and used it successfully all day. So going potty in the toilet at home is 100%. Using the potty at daycare is now back in business.

Next up is tackling outside. I've started letting her play in the backyard and go for walks in her panties to see how she does and so far she has just held it till we got home. I did take her to the mall the other night though and she peed her pants without even letting me know she had to go. When I took her to the mall bathroom with her portable potty toilet ring, she freaked out and refused to sit on the toilet there saying she would fall in. So not sure how to move forward from here. I cant carry a big potty with me every where we go. I wonder when she will get over the falling in the toilet thing!

We've also reduced the treat to two smarties or jellybeans and only when she actually asks for them. If its right before bed we tell her she has to wait until the morning and first thing in the morning she never asks for them. Usually in the afternoon though she remembers her rewards! Might try offering some stickers today.

Hooray poops!

Well the weekend has been great. Tegan had one accident and peed on the couch but other than that she is all about the potty. We dont really ask her that much any more because she just knows to go. I put her in a dress yesterday with no panties and it was so nice cause she could just pee without us have to run and take her pants down. So she would just go and do her business when needed.

We went to the store today to do some shopping. I had been talking with Tegan about her picking out her own toilet ring that she could bring to daycare so she wouldnt fall in. She seemed pumped about this idea so off we went. I stopped in the underwear section to see about getting her some new panties she liked. They had a bunch of Dora ones that I thought she would jump all over but instead she saw the boys versions that had Diego on them. She was desperate for the Diego pairs and couldn't understand that they were boys underwear and were made differently. She settled on a 6 pack that had cats on them.

We headed over to the potty section to look at toilet rings. Lucky us they had a Diego one! She was very pleased with this and we talked about how this was to go to daycare with her so she didnt fall in. So far she is saying that she will use the potty at daycare now so I'm crossing my fingers this works! We also picked up a collapsible portable potty ring to use when on the go. Her options were princesses, cars or Sesame Street. She chose cars and was so excited she had to hold both her new potty rings all the way home.

I was trying to figure out how to get Tegan to go poo on the potty. Usually she waits until her pull-up is on and goes during nap time. Well I decided to still with what has been working best...bribery! Tegan LOVES candy-canes. So last night I put a big candy-cane on top of the medicine cabinet where she could see it but not reach it. I told her that candy was for her first poo in the potty. Every time she peed she asked for it but we reiterated it was just for a poo. This afternoon she came out of the bathroom and told us she went poo and she had! and in the toilet too...woohoo...I'd hate to have to clean that out of a potty!! So we celebrated and gave her the big cane and she ate the entire thing turning into a big sticky mess in the process. It was nap time after that and she told us she wanted to wear her panties and not a pull-up...and we wouldnt let her...lol. Actually we compromised and put her panties on over her pull-up. She still takes very long naps, always wakes up wet and we dont have a rubber mattress cover yet. We'll get there.

So life in potty land is going pretty smoothly. Next up I need to get brave enough to start taking her out without a pull-up on!

Potty rock star!

Potty Training Update!

So at home Tegan is doing perfect. All pees in the potty no accidents in days. We’ve got her in panties and pants although that is struggle because she would prefer to be nude.  We have learned not to give her her 3 Smarties until she has her pants back on...bribery is fantastic!  Tuesday she started back at daycare and in the morning did great! 1 accident because the potty was in use but other than that all was going well. In the afternoon though there was an incident apparently she was sitting being held up by the daycare provider who was also carrying her 5 month old baby. Tegan ended up slipping into the toilet a bit and now refuses to go near the daycare toilet. She just repeats “Shawna drop me, I fall, no potty at Shawna’s.”  The daycare provider tried buying T her own special toilet ring, we have offered to let her bring her Dora one from home, I have tried bribing her with Candy Canes (she loves these) but she just insists no she is not going potty there. So for now we are not pushing it and hoping she changes her mind soon.

Our lives now revolve around us jumping to take T’s pants off every time she shouts “I have to go pee!” She still needs help getting her pants/panties off as she insists they all come all the way off. But its a small price to pay for no diapers!! I was grocery shopping the other night and Tegan was in a pull-up and she announced that she “need to go baf-room.” I told her she had a pull-up on she could just go (I know...bad mommy). But she shouted no she wanted to go to the bathroom. So I park the cart and take off with Tegan to the washroom at the other end of the store. Meanwhile she is shouting loudly “Hey guy I go baf-room, hey everybody I go pee.” I get her into the stall and undressed and she refuses to sit on the toilet because it doesn’t have her toilet ring in it. So I get her dressed and tell her we’ll be home soon. Pick out a couple more things, pay and drive home. She runs in the house to pee and her pull-up was still dry. So impressed she was able to hold it that long!!

So all in all pretty good so far! Hopefully she changes her mind about the daycare potty soon!

Going strong!

So today was day 3 and T is just doing amazing! We had one accident but other than that all pees in the potty! We got her to wear pants for a lot of the day and she still told us when she had to pee. As soon as she has to pee though she has to be naked from the waist down. Pants must be all the way off, no socks or anything. Often it is hard to convince her to put clothes back on afterwards. She's still wearing pull-ups to sleep and when we go out.  On the way home from the mall today though she actually told us she had to pee instead of just going in the pull-up and was actually able to hold it till we got home (luckily we were only a couple blocks away!). So proud of her!

We cut the reward down from 5 smarties to 3 and she didn't seemed to notice in fact the last pee of the day she forgot to even ask for a treat! She still rotates between the 2 potties and the big toilet, although the pink potty seems to be the favourite. It is so funny to hear her shout "need to pee!" and take off running for the bathroom. Only to stare at the toilet and decide nope not this time and run off to find one of the potties. One more day at home and then she goes back to daycare. Trying to get her fully in the habit of peeing in the potty before she goes back. I have been talking up how she is going to show all the kids at daycare that she is a big girl now! I will send her in pullups as I think she will be too distracted and busy to remember to pee their at first but I'm really hoping she continues to go. I know they have potty breaks all the time as two of the other kids are training so hopefully T can go when they go...fingers crossed!! Even if not its great to have her going at home. Using only 1 pull-up a day vs. 5-6 diapers!
